A Scarlet Mormon in its pre pupal stage spotted hanging on a citrus tree at the park.
Congratulations Linda, your spectacular Scarlet Mormon larva is our Spotting of the Day:"This striking larva of a Scarlet Mormon butterfly (Papilio rumanzovia), complete with extra spider, is our Spotting of the Day! This is the pre-pupal stage of the larva, which rests on the surface of a stem as the last instar of the caterpillar comes to an end. Earlier instars of the caterpillar are more spiky in appearance. False eyes at a caterpillar's front have been shown to act as a deterrent to birds".Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/projectnoah/pho...Twitter:https://twitter.com/projectnoah/status/9...
