Dog rose

Description:

Wild rose or dog-rose is deciduous and thorny shrub, 1 to 5m tall when growing without support. The leaves are composed of 5-7 leaflets. The flowers are usually pale pink, as seen on photos but can vary between a deep pink and white. They are some 4-5cm in diameter with five petals, and mature into an oval 1.5–2 cm red-orange fruit, or hip.

Habitat:

Here seen in fertile pleins, in between some small lakes.

Notes:

Edible - fruits are used to make a warm brew, supposed (wrongly) to supply plenty of vitamin C. Also, fruits can be prepared as slightly and pleasantly sour jam.
