Troglodytes troglodytes
One of the smallest European birds, with some 9 to 10 cm in length. Red-brownish in color, with barred wings. It has a thin and sharp bill. Another distinguished feature is the short and stubby tail, almost always kept cocked. Pictured here, it appears to be juveniles, just left the nest - they were a wee more cooperative to pose for a photo.
The Eurasian wren is the only member of the wren family (Troglodytidae) found in Eurasia and Africa (Maghreb).
This bird was my nightmare to catch on photo, I saw it couple of times... or thought so. In forests, it is always in movement; it does short and swift flights from branch to branch, always moving its wings... and when it creeps or climbs, it is not really fast, but moves constantly. These four photos are the only valid photos from a three series of 50 to 60 shots/bursts this Tuesday. Well, it was really worth it.
