Palm Tanager

Thraupis palmarum

Description:

These birds measure around 19 cm. They are basically gray in color with black wing feathers and a yellow cap on their heads. The gray is a little paler on the female. Perhaps it’s my imagination, but I think one of these is paler, therefore they may be a pair . . . . . or just good friends.

Habitat:

These birds were seen in a tree on the outskirts of a small town on the edge of the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle (1060 masl).

Notes:

This spotting is part of a 3-fer. I was trying to get a picture of a bird in a tree close by but it flew off. I saw the tree where it landed and maxed out my zoom to find him and found there were also 2 other pairs of Tanagers that were each different. They are listed separately but you can see what I saw in my viewfinder in photo 5. All three species were firsts for me.
