A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Myrmecia pilosula
A large carnivorous foraging ant, jack jumpers are usually around 12 mm in length and have a black body with orange legs and mandibles. Their bite is painful and it is well known for some people to react with severe anaphylaxis.
Jack jumpers build their nests beneath rocks or in open ground, constructing a mound of fine gravel between 20 - 40 cm across.
