Description:

The older and upper layers are reddish brown, lighting towards the base. The recent layers are white.

Habitat:

Boreal forest; growing on dead conifer trees or occasionally live trees.

Notes:

Fomitopsis pinicola is one the most proficient wood decayer in the taiga ecosystem.
