Carolina Sphinx Moth

Manduca sexta

Description:

Large moth with yellow bands on the abdomen and white spots on the edges of wings.

Habitat:

Vegetable gardens and various other habitats.

Notes:

I almost hit this moth with the mower as it blended in so well on the bark of our magnolia tree. The length was approximately 3 inches from nose to tip of wings.
