Hyla cinerea
The (American) Green Treefrog is a member of the family Hylidae. They are 1.5 to 2.5 inches in length. Their body is green - ranging from lime to olive - with, usually, a white iridescent line running down each side of their body, and toe pads. Many have small yellow spots on their back; the name 'cinerea' refers to these spots. They can change color from green to brown depending on light and temperature. Their call is a nasal 'quank' repeated up to 75 times/minute.
They prefer wet or moist areas such as swamps, lake sides, and the edges of streams with plentiful floating vegetation, cattails, grasses. They spend the day flattened against leaves or green vegetation. They are nocturnal and prefer climbing to jumping.
They may be found from Maryland to Texas; they are the State Amphibian in Louisiana and Georgia. In Georgia, they are found in Coastal Plain and Piedmont counties.
