Great Blue Heron

Description:

Largest of the Heron family in the North America. Height about 4.5ft with a wingspan over 5ft. With a S shaped long neck, and long legs with bill thick and pointed to spear fish. Will also hunt for amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates, small mammals, and even other birds Color mostly Blue Gray with white head, black stripe over the eye and black shoulder. Long gray feathers from the neck and black from back of head. They mostly breed in colonies in up to a few hundred pairs.

Habitat:

Can be found in wetlands; in marshes, irrigation ditches, streams, shores, tidal flats and kelp beds and on lawns.

Spotted in the marshland near the Richmond Landfill
