From the sandpiper family, this is one of the larger shorebirds closely related to the Yellowlegs. Coloring is lighter brown with shading of cream to almost white and legs of grey. When in flight you see a different pattern of black and white. Tail is also a white and dark color. They make their nests on the ground hidden in low grass and mostly in colonies.
Usually found on the west coast, can also be found on the east coast. Shorelines, sloughs, waterways, baylands.
Spotted this in a waterway near a Snowy Egret and a Great Blue Heron.
