A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Manis javanica
A few weeks ago we had another man come around trying to sell one, though he didn't have it with him, so I did not see it. Now I know what it is I was able to tell him it is illegal and that he should return it to the jungle. I doubt very much that he would have but at least he now knows.
So few spots of this elusive creature on Project Noah - 12 months later and Happy World Pangolin Day everyone!
Its very pose reflects a vulnerability - sad really - I hope it is in safe hands now. Congratulations Gemma !
Congrats on Spotting of the Day! I would love to see a pangolin some day, they are such neat creatures :)
Congratulations Gemma, your spotting has been chosen to demonstrate the challenges facing this fascinating & endangered animal on World Pangolin day.
Sunda pangolins have become the most frequently seized mammal in Asia's illegal wildlife trade, as smugglers sell the creatures to meet culinary and medicinal demand. These gentle insectivores are now on the endangered species list.

Well I hope I do not see it again under the same circumstances now that I know what it is and that it is endangered. :(
Happy World Pangolin day ~ 16 February 2013 ~ What a lovely spot of this unique mammal! Thanks for sharing Gemma!
Oh, poor little creature. Here's a spotting of a pangolin in the zoo: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/720... and here's one rescued from a hunter: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/801... Yours and these two are the only pangolins on PN.
