Northern palm squirrel

Funambulus palmarum

Description:

Also known as the five striped palm squirrel, has a light brownish grey coat and a nice fluffy tail. Closely related to the three striped palm squirrels found in the southern parts of India. Usually very active during the day - either chasing each other or a high sounding alert, they are nowadays found resting or basking on the branches, enjoying the sunny mornings, as the weather has turned quite chilly.

Habitat:

Tropical forests, wetlands, rural and urban populated areas with trees and gardens

Notes:

Find them in large numbers around our place and seem to be growing by the day! These adorable little ones make our trees and garden quite cheerful and lively with their day-long scurrying around. At times I do come across garden lovers grumbling about missing flower buds or seed pods.. :)
