Buteo jamaicensis
Not sure if these photos count since they were brought by the folks who take care of them from Maryland Park Service
I took the pictures myself KarenL, the birds were brought to the store not the photos.
Lovely photos MaryBeth. As you didn't take these yourself, please can you confirm you have permission to share them. Thanks.
Yea Christy I think that is what it is, I moved that picture with the other one I have. Thanks for bringing that to my attention :-)
Malcolm, we were just trying to figure it out! Marybeth, Broad-wings are another one we don't have...sounds good to me!! ;-)
Marybeth, since the middle one is obviously a different species would you please make it it separate spotting.
that has to be in, the middle pic has to be the broad winged and I just zoomed so close he looks almost as big as the red tailed....what do you think?
I am trying to think cuz now you have me 2nd guessing myself LOL there were 2 hawks there that day, one was the red tailed and the other a broad winged, they both only have one eye, same side as well, they had a backdrop on the wall for photo opps and I did take them at different angles and places around them but I see exactly what you are talking about...I WISH there was a red shouldered there, so awesome!! We have alot of them around us and I can NEVER get a good shot of one. The same pics are on my facebook along with ones with me standing with him/her.
Hmmm...the last 2 pics look completely different...down to the background and jesses on the feet...that's crazy if it's a trick of the light...the 2nd is heavily barred on the chest and the 3rd is almost white, with the typical Red-Tail belly band...looks like the 2nd bird has a missing eye? I've been known to be wrong before though!! And seems when I argue the most I'm even more wrong!! (Ask Liam...he's usually the one who sets me right). ;-)
Hi Christy! All three pics are of the same bird, he/she was at a local wild birds unlimited store here in DE, and I "adopted/sponsored" him for a year :o) I'm wondering if it was just the different angles and lighting because now that I look they do look different. Plus that was the only pic I could get of him looking straight ahead, he mainly kept his head turned, so he could see I am assuming. And thank you for helping them!!
Hi Marybeth! Your first and third pictures are Red-Tailed Hawks, but I think your 2nd one is a Red-Shouldered...not sure as they're not in my part of the country. I don't mind rehab/educational birds in the Raptors of North America mission, but I discourage falconry birds (used for sport-hunting). I am a Raptor rehabber myself, and handle our birds for educational programs...and love it!!!
Thanks Juan, I appreciate the information!! and thanks Meredith, I will check out the mission. :o)
Hi MarybethRees. Pictures with humans are not accepted in Noah. Please crop this picture or remove it.
For more information read FAQ
There's a whole mission dedicated to animals in captivity, so I'm almost certain they count :-)
