Hemileuca nevadensis
Beautiful black, white and red/orange female moth. This is the second time I've spotted a large group of this species in the same area and it's been exactly one year since the last time. They never landed for me last year. This cooperative moth crawled on my finger and unloaded its defense system on my finger :)
Eucalyptus and grassy area near Lake Hodges. The range is the western US and Canada.
The caterpillar can be seen at my other spotting: http://projectnoah.org/spottings/1144618...
