Eastern Box Turtle

Terrapene carolina carolina

Description:

The very red eye of a male Eastern box turtle

Habitat:

woodland, garden

Notes:

My yard is in the woods, and it must be a through-way for box turtles. I see several every year, and usually have at least one female lay eggs somewhere in the yard.
