Oblique-leaved Sorrel

Oxalis obliquifolia

Description:

small forb, about 7 cm tall, flowers single on long thin stalk arising from underground corm, leaves also on long, thin, red petioles from base. Leaves typically trefoil-shaped with particularly broad leaflets that make the leaves appear almost as solid and circular.

Habitat:

under taller vegetation in a periodically moist depression in an otherwise dry tree savannah vegetation. Summers hot and wet (av. annual rainfall 450mm). winters mild and dry although nighttime temperatures may occasionally drop below freezing

Notes:

this particular individual has a deformed petal, normally there would be 5 similar petals giving a more symmetrical flower shape
