Capromys pilorides

Description:

Very large rodent, it length ranges from 21 to 46 cm (8.3 to 18 in) and weigh about 2 kg. As a huge rat that lives in the branches of trees, the Hutia is one of the most typical mammals of the Cuban countryside. Many species on Hutias have disappeared. Although still survive more than a dozen. Hutias are vegetarian, their diet consists of leaves and bark of trees, fruits, and even roots and tubers.
