Little Blue Heron

Description:

Mostly black, yellowish eyes, Bicolored beak About 1ft tall.

Habitat:

Mangroves areas in the Caribbean.

Notes:

This bird came out of nowhere while I was doing a solo photo trip in Mandhal Bay St.Thomas.

Hi MalikHunt, please correct the ID of this spotting with the correct ID given in the suggestion. I'm not too sure why you decided to label this as a black heron (Egretta ardesiaca), even after I gave the ID suggestion? Black herons are an African bird and have never been recorded in the Virgin Islands. Also, that bird is solid black where yours is not, and that bird does not have a strongly bi-colored bill like yours does. The lighting may make your bird look dark, but you can still see the maroon head and neck, gray-blue body, and strongly bi-colored bill.
