Zion Rock Squirrel

Spermophilus variegatus

Description:

The Rock Squirrels in Zion were constant companions along the W Rim Trail to Angel's Landing. They were playful and acrobatic on the sheer rock faces. It was very hot that day and while no one is supposed to feed the wildlife in the National Parks, no one should be denied water. This one was thirsty enough to come drink from a capful of water and went away again happy.

Habitat:

West Rim Trail, Zion National Park, Utah.
