Description:

The question mark resembles the comma butterfly. They are in the angelwing family. The question mark is a common, medium-sized butterfly of wooded areas and suburbs that is often, but not always, associated with moist areas. With its wings folded, it resembles a dead leaf. Males find females by perching on leaves or tree trunks. Females lay eggs singly or stacked under leaves of plants that are usually not the hosts.

Habitat:

Wooded areas with some open space, city parks, suburbs. Can be found in Southern Canada and all of the eastern United States except peninsular Florida, west to the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains, south to southern Arizona and Mexico. This butterfly was spotted in the Pokagon State Park in Angola, Indiana.
