Common Warthog

Phacochoerus africanus

Description:

African wild pigs, of no concern to conservationists these days. Four subspecies, but this was the one listed at the zoo.

Habitat:

Obviously not the zoo. Mostly the savannah of sub-Saharan Africa.

Notes:

Found at the Houston Zoo in the eland enclosure. These spent a nice part of the day head-butting one another, with the loser getting on its knees in a submissive position.
