Two-Colored Bolete

Boletus bicolor

Description:

almost definitely a Two-Color Bolete - but possibly also Boletus sensibilis

Habitat:

mixed hemlock, ash, beech, hickory, maple, oak, forest - growing on a well-trod footpath.

Notes:

bruised almost immediately when touched with a stick. Inner surfaces stained blue to black within seconds of being cut open. Take note of the fat slug enjoying a mouthful of this big shroom.
