Red Cotton Bug

Dysdercus cingulatus

Description:

Dysdercus cingulatus (Fabricius, 1775). Cotton stainer bugs are small, flat, red and black bugs of the genus Dysdercus that pierce cotton bolls and stain the fibers, hence their name. They also attack Hibiscus spp., kapok, jute, okra, sorghum and some wild malvaceous plants.

Habitat:

Backyard, spotted on Okra plants (Hibiscus esculentis).
