Bluebell

Scilla non-scripta

Description:

In the UK, there is no wild flower that is more evocative of spring than the Bluebell. The native species is in danger of hybridizing with the Spanish Bluebell (Scilla hispanica).

Habitat:

Woodland, copses, scrub, hedge banks and heaths.

Notes:

The latin name fo this plant (non-scripta) couldn't be less appropriate. The sight of a blue mist of bluebells in woodland glades is one of the most joyous sights of spring. This flower also has many folklore tales about it through history.
