European Mantis (thanks to ForestDragon for the ID!) on black eyed susan in my garden.
I am certain of the species. This is a brown phase European Mantis. Nice shots! The inside of the front leg you can see the edge of the dark spot as well as the white speckling.
Thank you!I added another angle and joined your mission. :)
Shayna, do you have any other views? My best guess from location and what I can see is that this is a European Mantis, Mantis religiosa. http://bugguide.net/node/view/22947All (and I mean ALL) of the Mantids posted here on PN from Ontario are Mantis religiosa. Pretty interesting. I guess they are the most cold hardy of the Mantids here in North America. This would be a wonderful addition to my Marvelous Mantids of the North East mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/1573...
Nice one Shayna
