Giant Lady Beetle

Description:

Largest lady beetle species in North America. Spotless elytra (wing covers), and broad white stripes at the edge of the pronotum (top of thorax).

Habitat:

Relatively high elevations (over 6,000 ft. for this specimen), in understory of mixed conifer-hardwood forests.

Notes:

This specimen was seen in North Cheyenne Cañon Park in Colorado Springs.
