Common Ground Dove

Columbina passerina


Unusual dove for Aiken County. Slightly smaller than a Mourning Dove with a much shorter tail and rounded wings. Has an overall scaly look to the feathers with small black spots on the wings and pinkish-orange bill. Tends to stay low to the ground and rarely flies high.
