Flat-backed Millipede, Kentucky Flat Millipede

Apheloria virginiensis corrugata

Description:

Large black and yellow millipede with pairs of yellow legs

Habitat:

Woodland, yard

Notes:

I find these colorful millipedes every spring and summer in the leaf litter. Some millipedes emit liquid secretions of hydrogen cyanide gas through microscopic pores, so always wash your hands after handling.
