American Horsefly

Tabanus americanus

Description:

I know this is a horsefly , but I call it the "oh...my ....God!" Fly. This thing is scary huge. About 1.25 inches, with piercing mouthparts. Imagine that thing taking a bite from you?!?

Notes:

And no I didn't kill it. It's just stunned in that first pic. It got out of the cup after that last shot. At this moment this beast is loose in the Ranger Station, probably stalking me to take a chunk out of me. I reeaaaallly hope it gets out soon...!

I caught it and forcefully evicted it. whew! I'm not afraid of much, but that thing is just toooo big for my comfort, knowing what it would very much like to do to me....
