Mariposa da goiaba (Guava sack-bearer moth)

Family Mimallonidae, Mimallo amilia

Description:

These moths are approximately 50 mm wingspan, gray color, with brown designs on the wings. This species is one of the most economically important to the culture of guava, their losses are caused due to defoliation of the plants attacked. Other cultures in which this species has importance are cashew and araça (Psidium sp.). Larvae build open-ended cases (sacks) in which they overwinter.
