Eucereon sp.
For National Moth Week 2016. A striking Tiger Moth of the genus Eucereon with orange and black spots. It has two orange spots at the base of the head. Family Erebidae, Arctiinae.
Came to an ultraviolet light set up along the highway on a cliff between San Cristobal and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 18.5, 1164 meters.
This is a 5th species of Eucereon that I've found so far in Mexico. One from San Luis Potosí (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/174...) and three others from other sites in Chiapas, two of which are as yet unidentified: (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/177..., http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/208... and http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/177...).
