Tiger Moth

Description:

For National Moth Week 2016. A striking Tiger Moth of the genus Eucereon with orange and black spots. It has two orange spots at the base of the head. Family Erebidae, Arctiinae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light set up along the highway on a cliff between San Cristobal and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 18.5, 1164 meters.

Notes:

This is a 5th species of Eucereon that I've found so far in Mexico. One from San Luis Potosí (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/174...) and three others from other sites in Chiapas, two of which are as yet unidentified: (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/177..., http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/208... and http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/177...).
