Carolina Chickadees

Poecile carolinensis

Description:

I painted this birdhouse & put it out this spring. To my surprise, this pair of Chickadees moved in almost immediatly! They raised one beautiful brood in there! It wasn't easy for them to get this house though. A pair of Bluebirds wanted it too. They couldn't even fit through the hole! They fought hard for it but the Chickadees won it! I'm glad because they can actually fit in it & use it! For a few weeks after the babies hatched, the mother fed them caterpillars all day every day. It was a joy to watch!
