Red-tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis borealis

Description:

I couldn't get close enough with my zoom but I think they are red shouldered hawks, I've never seen two together or still long enough for me to actually snap some shots, it's usually when I am driving and I catch a glimpse.

Habitat:

treetop on skyline drive

Oh Christy once I saw one I was hooked now everywhere I go my eyes are looking with my camera on my passenger seat in my car...my husband and mom are always yelling at me when I'm driving to "stop looking for the darn birds and watch the road" I just can't help it...my daughter thinks I have bionic vision and always asks how do I see these things :-)

I think Liam is right on the money as per usual. also the scapular "V" that you see on the bottom hawk is prominent of red-tails.

The amount of white on the back suggests Red-tailed over other Buteos. Accipiters have longer tails.
