Tussock Moth Caterpillar

Orgyia detrita

Description:

Dark form.

Habitat:

Found on a wooden walkway.

Notes:

When these caterpillars are mature they stop feeding and look for a place to pupate. I have been seeing cocoons of Tussock moths everywhere. On structures, fences and the furrowed bark of trees.
