Yellow Nightshade Groundcherry

Physalis crassifolia

Habitat:

Growing in a dry wash in the desert of southern Nevada.

Notes:

I was told this was Rock Cherry, but the plant looks nothing like the wiki info for such a plant, so I have no idea now what it might be.

I guess eventually I'll get good enough to know which family to start a search in. Generally, I try to write notes about what a guide says a particular plant is so I can look them up when I get home. That, obviously, doesn't always work.

But there are tons of yellow flowers here and the plant looked somewhat gourd-like to me, so I was really floundering with my limited note.

I didn't find it in wiki, I looked strait in the nightshade family, and yellow color...Not too many yellow species out there :)

Thanks for the info. I'm surprised wiki didn't kick this for me when I did my search. Ground Cherry and Groundcherry should have popped - stupid search engine!!
