Bladder hibiscus, Flower-for-an-hour

Hibiscus trionum L.

Description:

a dainty Hibiscus up to 50cm (18in), flowers white with a deep red throat and orange stamens and stigma at the centre, the pretty deeply divided leaves and the bulbous buds also have deep red margins

Habitat:

seasonal wetlands, amongst the grasses, in flat river valleys and temporarily inundated depressions, sometimes drying out after a matter of days.

Notes:

the plants develop rapidly with the flowers open a day or two after rains, all the flowers in a meadow tend to face in one direction. (NB Location - map correct, text not, these plants were spotted in Botswana)
