Hi Mandom Man, this is a beautiful insect! This looks like a species of Meadow Katydid, Tribe Conocephalini. I am not sure of the species in your area but it should give you somewhere to begin searching.
One of the ways you can tell that it is not a grasshopper is if you look at the antennae. Katydids (and crickets) have long, thread-like antennae (like your insect). Grasshoppers usually have shorter, thicker antennae.
