Kahili ginger in bloom

Habitat:

Tropical upland ecosystem of mixed native and alien species

Notes:

Spotted along the Munro Trail near the summit of Lanaihale. Native to the Himalaya, and widely cultivated for its attractive flowers, kahili ginger is nevertheless regarded as an invasive weed in Hawaii.
