Aegolius acadicus
A tiny owl with a catlike face, over sized head, and bright yellow eyes. One of the most common owls in forests across northern North America (and across the U.S. in winter), saw-whets are highly nocturnal and seldom seen
They seem to prefer mature forest with an open understory for foraging, deciduous trees for nesting, dense conifers for roosting, and riverside habitat nearby.

My pleasure Leuba. It's hard to believe something with such a cute face could be such a fierce predator.
What a sweet face - looks like a plush toy. Thanks for sharing this Marta.
Oh wow. I feel honored.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Thank you Antonio. Spotting that little owl was a great thrill.
