Speckled Sharpshooter

Description:

Sharpshooter with a red head, speckled body, and some yellow on the sides. The only one that looks like this that I have ever seen in my yard. I'd guess 2-2.5 cm

Habitat:

Weedy back yard on a Beggar's Tick/Spanish Needle (Bidens sp.) in a suburban neighborhood

That's what I was thinking too, but I couldn't find any photos on bugguide with as red of a face as this one had. I think you're right though. The face color might be variable.
