Lamprotornis superbus
This bird is a member of the Starling family, or Sturnidae (Starlings and Oxpeckers). The adult is easily distinguished from other similar starlings, i.e. rufous-bellied starlings, by that thin white breast band, white vent and cream colored eyes. In size, it reaches some 20cm in length. It shows striking colors, with rufous belly, black crown, irridescent blue neck and brest, and blue and green back and covers.
Semi dry areas and savannas of East Africa. Here, pics are from a soda lake of Elementaita; but during my visit to Kenya, I've noticed these birds in all three locations I visited, starting from very dry Turkana region, through Nairobi National Park as well as urban settings, and Elementaita. Always seen in and around Acacia trees and shrubs.
