Cottonwood Stag Beetle

Description:

Large beetle, males with large mandibles (jaws) used in fighting one another over females.

Habitat:

Riparian areas with old cottonwood trees.

Notes:

The larvae of this species feed in decaying cottonwood logs and trees. This specimen was collected by someone other than myself.
