Atlantic Horseshoe Crab

Limulus polyphemus

Habitat:

primarily in and around shallow coastal waters on soft, sandy or muddy bottoms.

Notes:

Observed this "mating/spawning" pair in the mangrove intercoastal area of the park. Photos taken from a bridge into the shallow water. They remained in this area moving all over the muddy bottom and releasing bubbles every once in a while. Larger female in front, I assume. Fascinating creatures.
