I agree it looks deceptive because the only colouring should be orange-brown in the breeding season, which the head still shows, but I think it is a combination of mud and shadow. It's the same bird as in the first picture just a couple of seconds later.
the second photo is very deceptive I think - I'm assuming the dark areas are all simply shadow on what is otherwise a basically white bird
