Gray catbird

Dumetella carolinensis

Description:

These three catbirds were banded in my backyard as part of a Smithsonian Institute bird-tracking project. Eight common species have been targeted; six birds were banded in my yard, including these. The only one I haven't seen again is an American robin. I've named these three Clarissa (female with green bands), Camden and Corey. When Corey was banded, his tail feathers were just beginning to grow in (last photo - 20 May); he had been tail-less for a while because he had molted all of them at once.

Habitat:

My yard
