Willow Redgall Sawfly

Pontania sp.

Description:

On Pacific willow, galls about the size of Rice Krispies tending to run together in strings, especially along the rims of leaves, and are pale green to pale yellow to red in color. There was a wasp there (2nd picture), but I'm not sure if it was parasitizing or predating the larvae or what.

Habitat:

On the rocky banks of the Washougal River.
