Short Horned Grasshopper The Short Horned Grasshopper is in the Acrididae Family, with any more than 10,000 species of insects. They are herbivores and can get from 5mm to 11cm in length. They mostly are Dark green or yellowish and can have wings or be wingless and can be skinny or short and stout. They also range in most parts of North America. Life Cycle A female lays about 100 eggs into the ground. After rest period the eggs hatch and newly born nymphs (mini adults) emerge from the eggs. They molt a couple of times for a while before they become adults. In temperate regions one to several broods are produced each year.
We found this insect in a field by the school.
