Red-Bellied Woodpecker

Melanerpes carolinus

Description:

This Red-Bellied woodpecker was flying from tree to tree but I did not observe any feeding behavior.

Habitat:

The woodpecker was in a suburban type setting, surrounded by both trees and buildings. There were also other small birds out, but it was a cold, snowy day with little wildlife active. The surrounding trees included red oak trees, pin oaks, sycamore, and gingko bilobia. There are few dead trees in the immediate surroundings.
