Capparis spinosa
This is a stunning plant with striking large and white flowers, of strong sweet scent. Flowers have four white to pinkish-white petals, four sepals and many long violet-colored stamens. There is also only one stigma usually rising well above the stamens. The plant is a shrub, with thick leaves, oval in shape, glossy and alternate.
Native to Mediterranean basin, and widespread in it; found in arid and semi-arid hot areas. It often grows from rocks and walls, finding a hole an spreading wildly around - see photos 4 and 5 for details.
Floral buttons are collected and pickled; and used often as a part of mediterranean cuisine.
