Melangyna sp.
A small dark syrphid about 7mm long. Eyes were large with a thin line of separation.Thorax and scutellum were rounded and glossy. The abdomen appeared black with no details discernible. Wings were folded over each other at rest. Very unlike the other hoverflies both in size and markings. It was it's flight characteristics that helped identify it as a hoverfly.
Spotted feasting on nectar from Goodenia flowers growing on a regeberation tract along an urban road.
Species unknown.
family: Syrphidae
